A Session of Reflexology:
For the initial session I will have an intake form for you to fill out. Please fill out the form to the best of your knowledge.
The form will include a brief health history as well as general contact information. I will then ask questions and talk with you
for approximately 15 minutes to find out more about you in order to start a holistic investigation on who and how you are, in
effect gaining greater perspective by which to apply treatment. I feel that talking and getting to know one another is an
important part of a therapeutic relationship as I do focus my work on holistic therapy rather than strictly bodywork.
After the initial intake I will show you to the treatment room, where there will be a comfortable reclining chair for you to
relax in while I work on your feet (and hands if requested). During the session, for which I will work for an hour, I will address
the reflexes of the entire foot (both feet) and discover which areas are tender or have tension. Sometimes I will find crystal like
formations as well - which may or may not be tender. I will then take notes on which areas are causing discomfort and ask you certain
questions related to these tender reflexes.
I may simply ask, "On a scale from 1 to 5, how tender is that area (1 being the least uncomfortable, 5 being the most).
I may also ask you to close your eyes, which you may do at any time, but sometimes one needs to just focus on their breathing with
eyes closed. When the session is over I may do some guided breathing while I activate certain reflexes on your feet. Then when all
is done I will gently place my hands on your knees as a gentle signifying of a session complete.
Possible reactions between Reflexology sessions:
Reflexology has the potential to release much deeper stagnation of energy. This occurrence can cause more of a variety of
symptoms from a reaction than regular bodywork. Most of these are positive releases, which over time will heal the body and
prevent future problems, but some can cause temporary discomfort.
A reaction is not expected after the first or second session, but does occasionally occur.
Any uncomfortable reactions generally do not last for longer than three days if one is listening to what the body needs.
Some reactions may include:
-Helps regulate menstrual cycles
-Productive sleep
-Sense of ease through difficult situations
-Release of stagnation to assist in manifesting life processes
-Understanding of self and others
-Healing past trauma and/or painful experience
-More prolonged energy
-Balanced digestive system with healthful appetite
-May assist in memory reclamation
-May help with balanced metabolism
-May alleviate symptoms of stress in daily life
-Relaxation
-Overall harmony of organs and their systems (homeostasis)
-Enhances creativity

-Cold / Flu symptoms
-Vivid Dreams
-Emotional sensitivity
-Headaches
-Sweating
-Vomiting
-Cramping
-Rash
-Increased bowel movements
-Muscle soreness

These are just an example of possibilities. I have seen other symptoms in my years of training and work. What I ask of my
clients is to notice anything out of the ordinary - this provides me with more information to work from, and it challenges
the client to be more aware of themselves and their surroundings.
A Session of Tuina:
For the initial session of Tuina I will do a brief intake of medical history and ask you where there is discomfort
in your body. During a Tuina session you will leave your clothes on. I may ask at some time to remove some part of
clothing if I need to work in a certain manner with oil or lotion. For this, of course, I will step out of the treatment
room so you may disrobe in privacy. Most of my training as a professional massage therapist has been over the clothes, so
as strange as it may sound I do my best work over the clothes (this is also how the doctors in China practice with their
patients).
I start the session by sweeping down the body, gathering information(with my hands) about stagnant energy and where the
body needs addressing. The rest of the session will include some vibration and rhythmic techniques, one feels like a
rolling tool, but it's actually my fist. There are also some other techniques unlike anything you may have felt before.
I also use pressure points and deeper techniques applied where necessary. Some of the techniques will be temporarily
uncomfortable, but always followed by soothing relaxation techniques to allow for harmonization of energy. I will work on
the most stagnant areas first and then peripheral blockages will be addressed. What all this means is basically I press,
kneed, roll, and push on certain areas to harmonize your energy. If you don't "believe" in energy then think of it as vital
circulation (that which controls and commands the blood, lymph, digestion, nerves, and muscles to relax and contract)
After a session you may feel sore. This is completely normal. Be sure to drink plenty of water after a session and replenish
with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Possible reactions between Tuina sessions:
Immediately after a session of Tuina you may feel more relaxed than when you came in.
You may also feel energized - like you just did sprint running for ten minutes.
Important - During the first three days after a session take it easy. Often times I will assist
with someone's painful joint and they feel like a new wo/man post session. The affected area is not
healed yet. It just has more energy flowing through it so it feels better with more mobility. Please
baby it as if it were injured. This will be better for you in the long run.
You may also get cold / flu like symptoms because of a release of stagnant energy - this is why I recommend
to drink plenty of water. This will help to avoid the situation of illness. Please do not take antibiotics
before you know it has nothing to do with the bodywork you have just received - get the appropriate tests to
ensure the informed decisions are being made.
Please feel free to call me anytime if you are experiencing a reaction and could use some reassurance as to what may be
happening.
